What Are PNP Coils? – PNP Coils Explained
The VooPoo PNP coil series is the most versatile coil platform in the UK vaping market. “PNP” stands for Plug ‘n’ Play — a press-fit installation system that replaces traditional threaded connections. Instead of screwing a coil in and risking cross-threading, PNP coils simply push into the pod with a sealed silicone O-ring that prevents leaks and ensures solid contact every time.
Each coil in the range uses a mesh build (except the R-series and TW-series), which heats faster, more evenly, and lasts longer than traditional wire coils. The result: better flavour, less dry-hitting, and fewer replacements.
- PNP coils — the original range, compatible with Drag S/X, Argus, Vinci and dozens more.
- PNP-X coils — the updated format used in the Drag S PNP-X and Drag X PNP-X.
Are VooPoo PNP Coils Good?
Yes — VooPoo PNP coils are consistently among the best-reviewed coils in the UK market. Their reliability comes down to three things: the press-fit connection eliminates the weak-point of threaded coils; the mesh build distributes heat evenly; and the range covers resistance levels from 0.15Ω right up to 1.2Ω, meaning whether you’re a cloud-chasing DTL vaper or a tight-draw MTL vaper transitioning from disposables, there’s a PNP coil built for your style.
Typical coil lifespan is 7–14 days with regular use, though this depends on e-liquid sweetener levels — high-sweetener liquids will shorten coil life faster.
Pro tip: If your coils are dying faster than 7 days, switch to a lower-sweetener e-liquid. Caramel, custard, and candy flavours are the biggest coil killers.
Where are VooPoo Coils made?
VooPoo is an e-cigarette brand based in China. They are committed to integrating research and development, quality manufacturing, sales and customer service to deliver high quality products to the vaping market.
Are VooPoo PnP Coils Good?
VooPoo PnP coils are one of the most popular & reliable coils on the market today. The PnP coils range is mainly used for Sub-Ohm vaping which means means to vape with a coil that is less than 1.0 ohms. Typically, using a low coil resistance of around 0.5 ohms with a powerful tank, sub-ohm vape devices allow vapers to benefit from a more flavourful hit that packs a punch and gives off much larger amounts of vapour.
Aside from being designed to be the easiest coils to remove, replace and install, the VooPoo PnP coils are also a surprisingly innovative peice of vaping technology. VooPoo designed these coils with differing power ranges and resistance levels for both direct to lung (DTL or sub-ohm) and mouth to lung (MTL) vape users to maximise flavour and consistency.
Which PNP Coil Is Best For You?
VooPoo’s PnP Coil Series is quite comprehensive, and they are still adding new options with the development of new kits and tanks.
Use this quick-chooser to find your coil in 30 seconds, then read the full breakdown below for detailed specs.
Offering up to 13 prebuilt coil options and a single rebuildable coil option at the time of writing, the PnP Coil Series is sure to have a coil or two for each type of user available. With the broad range of functions that VooPoo has covered, the PnP Coil Series is all extensive of the various vaping styles, materials, and coil configurations in the vaping industry. Whether you like MTL (Mouth-To-Lung), DTL (Direct-To-Lung) or RDL (Redirect-To-Lung), mesh or multi-wrapped coil options, the PnP Coil Series is sure to have an option for you as the coil options grow.
With a lot of coil options, resistances, and types available, the PnP coils can easily confuse the user, but one safe consideration is that buying the type that is included in the original package from VOOPOO is a reliable way to ensure the coils will be compatible with your device.
However, for those that pay a little more attention to detail, coils from the PnP Coil Series will work with your device under two conditions, the first being that the device must accept PnP Coils and secondly, the coil’s resistance must fall within the device’s acceptable resistance range. With this newfound knowledge in mind, let’s take a dive into each PNP coil to see what is best for you and your device or vaping experience.

VooPoo PNP vs PNP-X Coils — What’s the Difference?
This is the most-searched question about PNP coils, so let’s answer it clearly.
PNP coils are the original format and work with the vast majority of VooPoo devices (Drag S, Drag X, Argus series, Vinci series, etc.). PNP-X is an updated pod format introduced with the Drag S PNP-X and Drag X PNP-X kits.
Key compatibility rule:: PNP-X pods accept both PNP and PNP-X coils. However, original PNP pods do not accept PNP-X coils. If you have a Drag S PNP-X or Drag X PNP-X, you can use your existing PNP coil stock.
In practice, the main functional differences are:
- PNP-X pods have slightly improved airflow sealing and slightly larger pod capacity
- PNP coil specs (resistance, wattage) are identical between the two systems
- If you’re buying coils for a Drag S PNP-X or Drag X PNP-X, standard PNP coils will work fine

PNP RBA — Rebuildable

With a post less build deck and single coil configuration, the PnP-RBA is compatible with most devices including the Vinci Pod Mod,Vinci X, Drag S,Drag X, Argus Pod Kit and more! A post less build deck just has holes in the bottom of it so that the ends of the coils go into them. The PNP RBA will only facilitate a single coil to be installed onto it.
The Voopoo PnP RBA Coil is a great addition to have if you want to build your own coils in your VooPoo device that takes stock coils (All PNP coils which are not RBA). Obviously, this RBA will only fit in the specified Voopoo devices to replace the stock Voopoo PnP coils.
The PNP RBA coil comes included with a 0.6ohm coil, wick, a coil tooling jig, 2 O-rings and small screwdriver to start you off on your DIY vape experience. We recommend starting off on the 0.6ohm coil that comes in the box to see how you get on with the installation of it and performance achieved. Once you are comfortable, you can then try out with different coils and wicking techniques if you’d like to.
We can say that PNP RBA coil has good build quality & the performance is pretty good, but again it is DIY, so it all depends on what build configuration you go for. Another good thing with the PNP RBA is that it comes with spare parts to help with the installation.
We recommend the PNP RBA coils for advanced vapers as the build takes little bit of tweaking to be get your desired results.
The PNP RBA coils are compatible with following VooPoo Vaping Devices:
PNP TW15 / TW20 / TW30 — Traditional Wire Coils

The PnP-TW15 coils are the latest release from the PnP coil range. Featuring an ohmage of 0.15 and supporting power outputs between 55-70W. Another new release from the PnP coil range is the PnP TW20 coil which features a resistance of 0.20ohm and power output between 40-55W. Lastly, the PnP TW30 coil features a resistance of 0.30ohm and supports a power output between 28-36W.
The PnP-TW replacement coils are a brand new range of longer lasting mesh coils designed to be 25% longer lasting than conventional mesh coils. The PnP-TW coils run best at a higher wattage, but due to the metal sheath construction and smaller wicking hole design, they are best suited to 50/50 and Nic Salt e-liquids.
The PNP TW coils are compatible with following VooPoo Vaping Devices:

How to Prime a VooPoo PNP Coil (Step-by-Step)
As the VooPoo PnP coils are made for Sub-Ohm vaping, they must be primed before use. The low resistance means more power is drawn from the battery of your chosen VooPoo vape device. The end result is massive amounts of vapor, which is awesome of course, but with more power comes more responsibility! And that means you have to prime the coils so they don’t burn out. We have put together a step by step process on how to prime your PnP coils before use.
⚠️ Don’t skip this::Vaping on an unprimed coil for even 2–3 puffs can permanently burn the cotton wick, ruining a new coil before you’ve even started.
-
Remove the new coil from packaging Check the coil type printed on the side — make sure it matches your device’s supported resistance range.
-
Apply 3–5 drops of e-liquid to the wicking ports Look at the side of the coil — you’ll see small rectangular openings (the wicking ports). Apply 1 drop of e-liquid to each port. Also add 1–2 drops down the top of the coil centre.
-
Install the coil into your pod Push the coil into the pod until it clicks into position. Fill your pod with e-liquid and replace the pod into the device.
-
Wait 5-10 minutes Let the e-liquid fully saturate the cotton inside the coil. This is the step most people skip — don’t. 10 minutes makes a measurable difference to coil lifespan.
-
Take 3–5 primer puffs (no fire button) Draw on the device without pressing the fire button. This pulls e-liquid through the coil and eliminates any remaining dry spots in the cotton.
-
Start at low wattage and build up Set your device 5–10W below your target wattage. Take 2–3 puffs, then increase by 5W at a time until you reach your preferred wattage. Breaking in a coil like this significantly extends its lifespan.
💡 Tip: If you still get a slightly burnt taste after priming, your wattage may be too high. Drop it by 5W and try again before assuming the coil is faulty.
The ten minute wait is prime time for priming! User manuals suggest for some coil manufacturers suggest waiting five minutes. However, we recommend waiting 10 minutes to be on the safe side. The reason behind this is that the cotton wick can be dense and may require additional time to saturate. So patience is key in this instance to get your VooPoo PnP coils full primed and ready to rumble!
How to Clean a VooPoo PNP Coil
You can extend PNP coil life by cleaning them when you notice reduced flavour — but only mesh coils (VM series, TM series, M2). Wire coils (R1, R2, TW series) respond less well to cleaning. The RBA can be dry-burned and re-wicked.
How to Clean a PNP Mesh Coil (VM / TM / M2)
- Remove the coil from the pod and hold it under warm running water for 30–60 seconds.
- Shake off excess water firmly.
- Leave to air-dry on a paper towel for at least 2 hours — or ideally overnight.
- Re-prime using the priming steps above before using again.
⚠️ Do not use isopropyl alcohol on mesh coils — it can damage the organic cotton wicking material. Warm water only.
How to clean a PNP RBA Coil
- Remove the wicking cotton from the RBA deck.
- Dry-burn the coil at low wattage (15–20W) in 3-second pulses until it glows evenly and any residue burns off.
- Hold under cold running water immediately after to quench the coil — this removes carbonised residue.
- Repeat the dry-burn and quench process 2–3 times until the coil glows clean and even.
- Re-wick with fresh cotton and prime before use.
Can You Use PnP Coils In A TPP Tank?
No — PNP coils and TPP coils are not interchangeable. The TPP platform uses a different form factor designed for VooPoo’s higher-wattage mod devices (Drag 3, Drag 4, etc.). If you have a TPP device, you need VooPoo TPP coils. If you have a PNP device (Drag S, Drag X, Argus), you need PNP coils. The two systems look similar but are not compatible.
Can The VooPoo Drag 3 Use PnP Coils?
No. The Drag 3 uses TPP coils in the TPP Tank, not PNP coils. However, if you have a PNP pod that’s compatible with the Drag 3 (some editions ship with both tank and pod options), those pods will accept PNP coils.
Best PNP Coil for Flavour
MTL flavour: PNP TM1 or TM2. The tri-mesh heating surface at high resistance creates a concentrated, detailed flavour hit that the VM series can’t match in MTL style. If flavour is your priority and you prefer a tighter draw, the TM1 is the best coil in the entire PNP range.
DTL flavour: PNP VM3 or VM5. For open-lung vaping, the VM3’s 0.45Ω balanced output and the VM5’s larger mesh surface both deliver excellent flavour definition. The VM3 edges it for flavour accuracy; the VM5 wins for sheer vapour volume.
Best PNP Coils for Nic Salts (2026)
If you’re using 10mg or 20mg nic salts — especially if you’ve switched from disposable vapes — you need a higher-resistance coil that delivers nicotine efficiently without needing high wattages. The following PNP coils are best suited to nic salt e-liquids:
- PNP TM2 (1.0Ω) — Best overall nic salt coil. Tri-mesh at 1.0Ω delivers excellent flavour and smooth nicotine at 10–20W.
- PNP TR1 (1.2Ω) — Tightest draw, closest to disposable feel. Ideal for 20mg nic salts if you want maximum nicotine efficiency.
- PNP TM1 (0.8Ω) — Best for 10mg nic salts where you want more flavour but still MTL draw.
- PNP VM4 (0.6Ω) — If you want a slightly looser draw than MTL with nic salts, the VM4 bridges the gap.
Best PNP coil for 70/30 E-Liquids
70% VG liquids need coils with larger wicking ports to avoid dry-hitting. Best choices: VM5 (0.2Ω), VM1 (0.3Ω), TW15 (0.15Ω), or TW20 (0.2Ω). Avoid using 70/30 with VM4, R1, R2, or TM2 — the thick VG ratio won’t wick fast enough at these resistances.
Best PNP coil for 50/50 E-Liquids
50/50 liquids are the most versatile — they work with almost every PNP coil. For 50/50 DTL: VM3, VM4, VM6. For 50/50 MTL: R1, R2, TM1, TM2, TR1. 50/50 is also a good starting choice if you’re unsure which coil to pair with a new device.
How Long Do VooPoo PNP Coils Last?
With regular use (10–20ml of e-liquid per day), most PNP coils last 7–14 days. Signs your coil needs replacing:
- Noticeably reduced flavour or a muted, flat taste
- A mild burnt or slightly charred flavour that priming won’t fix
- Gurgling sounds or e-liquid spitting into your mouth
- Reduced vapour production at your normal wattage
Factors that shorten coil life:
- Sweet/dessert e-liquids — sucralose caramelises on the coil and gunks up the wick fastest. If you vape sweetened liquids, TW-series wire coils last longer than mesh.
- Chain vaping — taking back-to-back puffs doesn’t give the wick time to re-saturate. Take 30-second breaks between puffs.
- High wattage — running above the recommended wattage range burns the cotton faster.
